Partners and Other Strangers
It is a particular challenge to work with couples in trouble. It is so easy for the facilitator to drift in and become part of the couple’s system. The most common couple entanglements: It’s not my fault; my partner needs to change. All I want is to return to the way things used to be. We have to stay together for the children. In this session, we will dive beneath the surface of communication habits, including blame, naiveté, and distraction, to find the hard but generative answers for everyone. I will offer exercises to anchor understandings.

Students will explore:
How not to become entrapped in the couple’s ecosphere
Where to look for new resources
How loyalties to the past can shape current relationships
Maintaining mobility when “beliefs” are at odds with the couple’s way in the world
Not taking sides

Inquiry is an intervention
Asking good questions is an art. The interview funnel. What does the client really want and is that what the system needs? The breath as an indicator of permission and release. Close the loop.

My teaching approach is to provide you clear and useful concepts, then offer you experiential ways to engage with those concepts in order to make your learning real. I’m after “sticky” learning, that is, learning that sticks with you after the session that you can put into practice.

The role of pain in constellations and transgenerational healing
 
One of the biggest challenges in a helping profession can be to face the pain of our clients. Nobody likes pain and we are used to wanting to “get rid of it” or help others in this regard.
And yet pain is an integral part of healing. Without pain there is no healing.
In this workshop we will reflect on physical and emotional pain from different perspectives, maybe find a new connection with it and learn how to give it a place of acknowledgement in our practice.
